New Ex-pz controller for zone 2 by Quintex

In modern chemical plants increase the need of complex electrical equipment used in the processing area of flammable materials. An explosion protection of electrical equipment will be ever higher requirements. The ignition pressure encapsulation EEx p offers a variety of applications.

(businesspress24) - The overpressure encapsulation (ex-p) makes it possible to use not explosion-proof equipment in hazardous areas. The overpressure encapsulation is the idea, to keep away explosive gas from the non-ex-devices.
The explosion protection by pressurized system is realized by using the non-explosion devices in a overpressurized housing (p ex-housing). This housing by a permanent pressure with air or inert gas keeps away a potential explosive atmosphere. Depending on the application and existing explosion protection zone, before using the devices or controlsystems the housing must be flushed. This will ensure that a possibly in the housing existing explosible atmosphere will be removed.
In the mode of compensating leakage losses, after the completion of a transitional flushing phase a mBar pressure will be maintained within the ex p housing. On the gas entrance digital flushing valves and proportional flushing valves can be used for the flushing phase
The overpresirized protection is divided into three protection types, broken down as follows distinguished:
* Typ "px": The zone classification within the housing will decrease from Zone 1 to Non explosive
* Typ "py": The zone classification within the housing will decrease from Zone 1 to Zone 2
* Typ "pz": The zone classification within the housing will decrease from Zone 2 to Non explosive.
According to the above classifications the standard requirements for the design has to be examined
The QUINTOC Controller (a in-house development of Quintex GmbH)
is based on the protection type Ex pz according to EN 60079-2.
It is suitable for flush time and pressure monitoring in Ex Zones 2 and 22
The influx of the flushing gas quantity in the ex-p switch cabinet is controlled and after the flush time the installed components will switched on and the interior of the cabinet will be pressurized and monitored.
To build up a pressurized system for Zone 2/22 the following components are needed


Quintoc Controller
Digital Valve with leakage valve
Pressure controller with manometer
flush exit (pressure monitor)
The following characterized the QUINTOC controller QOS 2:
Small design, useable in Zone 2 and 22
Enclosure 120 mm x 122mm x 90 mm
5 different flushing programs
Maintenance free system
Digital magnetic valve with replaceable fuse
Programmable key switch function with alarm indication
Programmable alarm relay
Unblocking relay with 5 A switching load
Approved according to EN 60079-2
Ambient temperature range -20°C up to 60°C
Mountable within or outside the cabinet
3 free programmable temperature sensors
Temperature value 1 activates the flushing (for cooling down)
Temperature value 2 activates the alarm
Temperature value 3 shut down the system
Alarm indication for sensor broken
The QUINTOC controller is avaible for different voltages.
The available flush valves in accordance to the flush gas quantity go by with the cabinet sizes.
