(businesspress24) - SAN CARLOS, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/19/12 -- commitment to encouraging young women to explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) achieved a milestone when the California State Legislature passed , "relative to science, technology, engineering, and mathematical jobs" by Assemblyman Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo. Invent Your Future finds that despite no significant gender differences in science abilities at middle school, the largest gender differences in STEM fields occur when women choose courses of study at high school and college. Girls overwhelmingly choose not to pursue STEM careers, particularly in the U.S., and women opt-out of STEM careers at a disproportionately high rate as well.

"Without a critical mass of people 'like themselves,' confronting the status quo can be too large a challenge for girls and women to overcome on their own. Dare 2B Digital addresses this challenge," said Ruth Stergiou, CEO of Invent Your Future. "On behalf of all of our industry partners, we are grateful to Assemblyman Jerry Hill for spearheading this resolution and bringing to the attention of the Assembly the critical need to support STEM outreach programs. Together, we're increasing active participation of girls and women in creating and designing technology, which will fuel economic growth and job opportunities."

Silicon Valley has hosted three successful Dare 2B Digital programs reaching 750 young women. 99 percent of participants say that D2BD has increased or maintained their interest in computer science.
