(businesspress24) - TAMPA, FL -- (Marketwired) -- 11/04/15 -- Tony award-winning actress Phylicia Rashad is leveraging her star power to tell as many people as possible about the work of AMIkids, a non-profit organization that helps young people to realize their potential and transform their lives. Rashad conducted a national press event to discuss the success of AMIkids and to explain why its mission is so important.

AMIkids works with thousands of young people across the country who are struggling to develop a path to a good job, home and family. AMIkids'' staff creates a family environment while working to improve the education and strengthen the emotional foundation of these young people, providing them with the tools they need for success.

"Young people enter AMIkids unable to see that they have a future," Rashad said. "AMIkids gives them a window to discover their potential so that they can become who they were meant to be."

Graduates of the AMIkids program have a 77% success rate. This is three times better than those young people coming out of institutions. With over forty programs in nine states, its costs average less than one-third of the costs of incarceration.

Rashad is passionate about the mission of AMIkids, but she cites its results as one thing that sets the organization apart from so many others. "Success of the young people in these programs is a success for all of us," says Rashad. "This is an organization deserving of our support and I urge everyone to get involved."

Founded in 1969, AMIkids is a nationally-recognized nonprofit organization that helps kids and strengthens communities through positive and motivating programs that inspire learning, leadership and personal growth. Through over 40 programs nationwide, AMIkids has helped over 125,000 kids and their families separate a troubled past from a bright future.

AMIkids has been nationally-recognized for its work and impact on youth. AMIkids received national education accreditation by AdvancED, the world''s largest education community. The AMIkids Personal Growth Model© has been nationally recognized by the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) as an "evidence-based" model for improving the academic achievement of at-risk students and for reducing delinquent behavior. In addition, the AMIkids Non-Residential Program Model has been designated as a "promising model" by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention for reducing re-offending behaviors and is the only Non-Residential Program Model so recognized. This year AMIkids was named the 2015 Overall Best Nonprofit of the Year by the Tampa Bay Business Journal. For more information, visit
