Düsseldorf. Pierre Lang is an Austrian jewellery manufacturer with its own production facility at their headquarters in Vienna. Since the establishment of the company 30 years ago, Pierre Lang is now best known for its passion for jewellery design. This long tradition in combination with the professional craftsmanship and the quality of products guarantees the popularity of the brand today. Not only will this traditional Austrian company celebrate its anniversary this year, but also the DENSO Auto-ID division has been in business for 30 years in Europe. DENSO’s leading partner in Austria BARCOTEC provides solutions for automatic identification and data capturing systems and has been working with Pierre Lang for almost 20 years as a HW and SW supplier. BARCOTEC was up to now more than able to fulfil all the necessary requirements of the jewellery company: The DENSO handheld terminal BHT-1300 satisfied the customer in every way with its high level of robustness and with its combination of handiness and operability. All existing software can run perfectly on this terminal for any mobile data capturing application. This forward compatibility gives the customer the necessary long term security to use this device for many years to come. Further information on DENSO, part of the Toyota Group and inventor of the QR Code, the scanners and handheld terminals, solutions for mobile data capturing and DENSO Auto-ID can be found at

More than 800,000 different Jewellery pieces, some of them not bigger than a pinhead, are stored at the Pierre Lang headquarters in Vienna. Around 55 people worked for two days to complete the main inventory for these products. They had to count all the pieces and then had to enter them into lists. The challenge was to accelerate this process and to save costs at the same time. The key requirement was to capture the barcode data with a scanner as easily as possible and to transfer it to the so-called SAP-software. It was possible to speed up the processes enormously by the using the DENSO scanner BHT-1300 in two versions: equipped either with Windows or with a DENSO-OS, the proprietary operating system from DENSO. All devices impressed with their outstanding scanning and reading ability. The scanned codes are captured easily and reliably and are then transmitted promptly via the wireless LAN to the superordinated systems. A further advantage of this model is the perfect combination of mobility and usability – all manual operations using work gloves are made possible without any limitations thanks to the dome-shaped buttons of the BHT-1300. Furthermore, the information on the LCD of the device can be read optimally from every angle, even in strong sunlight – whereas in a darkened warehouse the backlight to illuminate the keyboard buttons is a priceless feature. With an overall weight of 188 grams, the BHT-1300 is ultra-light with a unique power-saving performance which makes it one of the best in its class. An option to increase the operating time is also possible by using a high performance battery. Further information about all the DENSO products like handheld terminals and scanners for mobile data capturing, the QR Code and about DENSO-Auto-ID can be found here:

With the new installed application, 25 employees are capable of handling the complete inventory of Pierre Lang in just one day. In addition, the production was able to run at least half a day longer and as a direct consequence there were cost savings of up to 50% on the stocktaking process. Although many of the company employees were using mobile capture devices for the first time, they were able to operate the terminal easily and without any problems. The adjustment time did not take longer than ten minutes. The easy handling was especially commented on: The ergonomics of the BHT-1300 with its small size and the angled scanning head were positively reported. The latter ensures a clear view on the display, and allows the employees to have all the important information in sight at all times.
